LaMicro Theater is proud to present On Insomnia and Midnight (De Insomnio y Medianoche), by Mexican playwright, Edgar Chías as part of the 11th annual New York International Fringe Festival-FringeNYC at the SoHo Playhouse 15 Vandam Street (between 6th Avenue & Varick / 7th Avenue). Subway: 1 to Houston Street or C, E to Spring in Manhattan.
The author presented this play at the Royal Court Theater in London and was highly acclaimed by the British press, considered an innovative contemporary piece. On Insomnia and Midnight is a play about two strangers, a hotel guest and a chambermaid, that meet every midnight to share their secret erotic fantasies for pure pleasure and power without realizing the danger that they involve. Who is naive and who is perverse? New York version features actors Pietro Gonzalez and Sonia Portugal, light designer Lucrecia Briceño and director Berioska Ipinza.
On Insomnia and Midnight received rave reviews from the British press. Time Out London’s Brian Logan said, “Chías created something which you have to piece together and work out yourselves. I’d compare it to David Lynch; there’s the same oblique way of storytelling.
LaMicro Theater is a New York based Latino theater company that produces contemporary Latino playwrights in English and Spanish. Edgar Chías is considered one of the most important Mexican playwrights of this generation. Mr. Chías has received several awards. In 2007 he was granted the “Oscar Liera” Contemporary Play Award for both of his plays Crack and On Insomnia and Midnight.
